Immanuel Bible Church

Prayer for the salvation of the lost is not a hopeful gesture but a genuinely powerful act because of five realities Paul lays out in 1 Timothy 2:5-6: there is one true God, one mediator, one ransom, one gospel testimony, and one historical moment when salvation was actually accomplished.

Giving is not fundamentally about money but about grace received from God overflowing into generosity; the Macedonian churches, though desperately poor and persecuted, modeled true giving because they gave themselves to the Lord first, and their finances followed.

Matthew 22:14 holds together two truths in tension: God genuinely calls the whole world to salvation through creation, conscience, and the preaching of the gospel, yet only those whom God has chosen and internally calls will actually respond in faith and be saved.

Jesus' parable of the wedding feast in Matthew 22 divides all who hear the gospel invitation into three groups: refusers who reject the king outright, receivers who humbly come by grace and are clothed in Christ's righteousness, and presumers who attend without ever loving the Son and end up condemned along with the refusers.

Paul's farewell speech to the Ephesian elders in Acts 20 reveals three things every Christian leader (and every believer) must have: a consistent and humble character, an unwavering commitment to finish the ministry entrusted to them regardless of cost, and a vigilant shepherding care for themselves and those entrusted to them. The preacher frames this as his own farewell sermon after 47 years of vocational ministry and 21 years as pastor at Immanuel.

Jesus' parable of the wicked tenants (the bloody vineyard) is his own retelling of Isaiah 5's song of the vineyard, exposing that Israel's religious leaders had rejected God's prophets and were about to murder God's own Son, and that as a result the kingdom would be taken from them and given to a new, fruitful people; the church.

Prayer is the Christian's power source in spiritual warfare; without it, even the full armor of God leaves a believer powerless to stand firm.

All money belongs to God, and as his stewards believers have one job; faithfulness; shown by diagnosing how they actually spend money, deciding to serve God rather than mammon, and maintaining a determined, cheerful commitment to generosity rather than a one-time act of giving.

God is not a God to be played with; wherever he establishes something good and beautiful sin lurks to corrupt it, and the church must recover a healthy fear of God that produces purity of heart rather than hypocritical religious performance.

Jesus' final word from the cross, "Tetelestai" (it is finished), is a perfect-tense declaration that the entire work of redemption; every Old Testament promise, type, and prophecy; was fully and completely accomplished at that moment, leaving nothing for the believer to add to earn or complete their salvation.

Paul's speech to the Areopagus in Acts 17 shows that God sovereignly created, governs, and limits nations so that people would grope toward him and ultimately find him in Christ; understood this way, America is neither a covenant nation like Israel nor an accident of history, but a nation providentially used by God to advance the gospel, which guards against both nationalism and globalism.

Jesus's cursing of the leafy but fruitless fig tree and his cleansing of the temple are one enacted judgment on Israel's dead religion, and his teaching on prayer that follows is Christ preparing his disciples to live and commune with God in a coming world without a temple, where the church itself becomes God's dwelling place.

First Chronicles 12's list of David's mighty men is really a portrait of the kind of people a true king gathers; those who come sacrificially, loyally, broadly, and joyfully; which points forward to the greater Son of David and how people come to Christ.

Jesus cleansed the temple not merely because of exchange-rate corruption but because the whole sacrificial system had replaced God's intended purpose; a place where Gentiles and all nations could freely access God; with a system that controlled and monetized access to him; Jesus, as the true Son of David, both builds and is the true house of God, now fulfilled in the church, his body, where all people have access to God through faith in Christ.

Jesus deliberately orchestrated his own triumphal entry into Jerusalem to fulfill Zechariah's prophecy of a humble donkey-riding king, revealing himself as prophet, priest, and king even as he knowingly walked toward his coming suffering and death.

To truly love life and be blessed, you must learn the fear of the Lord; letting God become so great in your mind that he pushes out every other concern; which then produces two concrete fruits: guarding your tongue from evil and speaking deceit, and practicing repentance by turning from evil to do good.

Psalm 150's fourfold, unceasing summons to glorify God everywhere, for all he is and does, with all we have, is not a demand alien to our good but an invitation into the very self-glorifying, self-giving love the Trinity has enjoyed eternally, so that God's glory is our highest good.

The two blind beggars outside Jericho, though physically sightless, show greater spiritual insight than the disciples and Pharisees because they recognize their own blindness, cry out to Jesus for mercy, and confess him as the divine Son of David; modeling what true conversion looks like.

1 Chronicles 10 shows that Saul's death was the tragic end of a life driven by self-preservation rather than covenant faithfulness; he was near to God's throne, Spirit, and prophet yet never repented, and his grasping loss of the kingdom becomes the backdrop for David's (and ultimately Christ's) receiving of it.

True greatness in Christ's kingdom is not seized through authority or status but received through humble service, following the pattern of Jesus who became a deacon and a slave and gave his life as a ransom for many.

God calls Abram to leave everything and follow him, backing that command with sovereign promises he alone will fulfill; because God is faithful to his promises, believers today are called to obey him with faith even before the promises are visibly fulfilled.

True greatness in God's kingdom is not won by self-promotion or family political maneuvering, but is granted by grace and shown in willingness to drink the cup of suffering that conforms believers to the crucified Christ.

Jesus deliberately and knowingly walks the road to Jerusalem to die, showing that everything he has reoriented around himself in Matthew's gospel ultimately finds its focus in the cross, and believers must likewise make the cross the center of their own lives.

Preaching through 1 Chronicles 9's genealogy of the exiles who returned to rebuild Jerusalem, Jesse Johnson argues that Saul's dead-end lineage proves the promise of the Savior was never carried by physical descent but by God's choice and faith, so that the 'Israel of God' of Galatians 6:16 is the remnant; Jew and Gentile; who believe in Christ rather than every biological descendant of Jacob.

The parable of the vineyard workers teaches that God's kingdom runs on grace, not fairness: though there are real degrees of reward for faithful service, salvation itself is God's sovereign gift to whomever he chooses, so every believer ultimately receives the same greatest reward; seeing God face to face.

God's preserving grace, not merit, keeps his people alive even when they deserve extinction; the tribe of Benjamin should have vanished multiple times but was kept by God for future usefulness, ultimately producing the apostle Paul.

Preaching through the rich young ruler and its aftermath, Jesse Johnson argues that the law's offer of 'do this and live' makes salvation impossible for any person, rich or poor, but that God alone saves whomever he wills through the Spirit's regenerating work, and that those he saves are called to reorder every relationship; family, wealth, land; under the lordship of Christ in view of the reward to come.

Working through 1 Chronicles 7:20-40 as the last two tribes in a series on the sons of Jacob, the sermon contrasts Ephraim, whose prominence and privilege without faithfulness led to tragedy, division, and exile, with Asher, whose overlooked, stable, well-provided life carries the opposite danger of comfort breeding spiritual complacency; God works his purposes through both tragic and stable lives, and both are fulfilled in Christ.

The rich young ruler's confidence that he had kept the law exposes that the law's true purpose is not to be checked off but to break sinners and expose their idols so they see their need for a savior; he went away sad because he loved his money-idol more than he wanted to follow Jesus.

John 3:16 is a phrase-by-phrase tour of the whole Bible, compressing the greatest being, the greatest affection, the worst recipients, the greatest action, the greatest gift, the greatest invitation, the greatest threat, and the greatest reward into a single sentence that constitutes the gospel in a nutshell.

Jesus' rebuke of the disciples in Matthew 19 shows that the kingdom of heaven is not earned or achieved but received like a child receives care; entrance to the kingdom hinges on lacking authority, strength, independence, and works, not possessing them.

When Jesus and Paul address singleness, they overturn the disciples' assumption that unmarried life is a curse to be avoided, teaching instead that singleness is a genuine gift from God; good, assigned, freeing, and uniquely focused for undivided service to the kingdom, not a problem to be solved by marriage.

Three lesser-known tribes of Israel; Issachar, Naphtali, and Manasseh; teach that God's people are not called to power or prominence but to rest in his presence through discernment, through darkness, and through repentance after failure.

Church discipline finds its completion not in disfellowship but in restoration; when discipline produces repentance, the church's obligation is to forgive, comfort, and reaffirm love for the repentant sinner, publicly and fully, just as the father welcomed home the prodigal son.

Isaiah 55 is God's urgent, lavish gospel invitation for spiritually thirsty and empty sinners to come to Christ freely for satisfaction, eternal life, and abundant pardon, and this offer can be trusted because God's ways, word, and work are supreme and utterly unlike our own.

The kingdom of God is not sustained by birthright or human strength but by worship, and God transformed Levi's curse of landlessness into the priestly calling that provided Israel atonement, worship, and access to God's presence; all of it foreshadowing Christ, the final and perfect high priest.

Jesus teaches in Matthew 19 that God designed marriage to be an unbreakable, permanent union, and that although Moses permitted divorce because of human hardness of heart, only adultery (and abandonment by an unbelieving spouse) constitute legitimate biblical grounds for divorce.

Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh had natural privilege (firstborn status), physical power (military might), and legacy (descent from Joseph), but none of that could save them because they broke covenant faith with God and were the first tribes to fall into exile; salvation and security rest on covenant faithfulness, not birthright, strength, or heritage.

Heaven's glory is best grasped by seeing what will be missing from it; God's judgment, separation from God, sorrow, spiritual struggle, and sin itself; because each represents something from this fallen world that Christ's work has permanently undone.

God protects his people through his covenant promise: Judah carries the messianic promise while Simeon, though under God's judgment for the violence done to avenge Dinah, escapes being scattered by clinging to Judah's promise instead; prefiguring how those hidden in Christ are sheltered from coming wrath.

When the Pharisees try to trap Jesus with a question about grounds for divorce, he refuses to argue from Deuteronomy 24 or from human happiness and instead roots marriage in God's creation design in Genesis; male and female joined by God into one flesh; so that divorce must be understood in light of that original, unbreakable design rather than as a loophole to escape a difficult marriage.

God deliberately chose to advance his messianic promise through the office of human kingship rather than any other form of government, because humanity already bears a royal image, kings represent their people federally, fallen kings expose the need for a perfect king, and all of history moves toward the true King who is God himself incarnate in Jesus, the son of David.

In the kingdom of heaven, forgiven people forgive; refusing to forgive others reveals a heart that has never truly grasped the magnitude of its own forgiveness by God, since our debt to God (10,000 talents) infinitely exceeds any debt others owe us (100 denarii).

Through the flawed, unlikely genealogy of Israel's twelve sons in 1 Chronicles 2, God gave the law to reveal His will, build a distinct nation, confront people with their sin, and direct all of history toward its fulfillment in Christ, who is the true king and priest that line was always pointing to.

True forgiveness is not a self-referenced tally of offenses but is rooted in the atonement of Christ, who both paid for sin and carried it away forever, so believers forgive endlessly because God did not keep a record of their far greater sins against Him.

The church expresses a distinct, sacrificial love unlike the world's by actively pursuing sinning members through the step-by-step process Jesus lays out in Matthew 18; private confrontation, witnesses, and church involvement; rather than avoiding conflict out of a false, comfortable notion of love.

Refusing to lovingly correct sin; whether in the church family or the home; is not love but hindrance, keeping people from the kingdom of God, since Matthew 18-19 together teach that God's family is shaped by discipline and discipleship into maturity.

Biblical love, unlike Western love which is unlimited in scope but limited in demands, always terminates on God himself first, and this God-centered love moves in a cycle: from God's love for himself, to his love for us, producing obedience, which produces joy, which produces sacrificial love for others; making true love inherently offensive because it insists on what is truly best rather than merely accepting people as they are.

Government originated after the flood as God's institution to protect worship, food, family, and life by bearing the sword against evildoers, and the table of nations in Genesis 9/1 Chronicles 1 shows the God-designed limits of ethnicity and the historical misuse of Scripture to justify slavery.

Jesus commands believers to labor to rescue immature and sinning believers rather than abandon them under the guise of love, because; just as a shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to pursue the one lost sheep; it is not the Father's will that any of his little ones perish.

Tracing the genealogy from Adam to Noah in 1 Chronicles 1, the sermon argues that human history unfolds in successive ages; innocence, then conscience; each marked by the same pattern: God gives a command, humanity fails it through self-trust rather than faith, judgment follows, but God always opens a door of rescue for those who come to him in faith, a pattern fulfilled in Christ.

Daniel (traditionally understood as the author of Psalm 119) shows that authentic prayer is not self-centered exercise or a means to change outcomes, but the pursuit of God's answering presence and nearness, offered so that the one praying can keep obeying God's word even amid persecution.

Temptation is inevitable, external in its approach but deadly once it latches onto the heart, and though it cannot be permanently defeated it can be resisted through decisive, drastic action because the eternal stakes (heaven or hell) are that high.

Psalm 134, the last of the Songs of Ascent sung only upon arrival at the temple, is the song of a journey completed; and that journey to meet God in Zion finds its ultimate fulfillment at the first Christmas, when God himself came near to his people in the flesh.

Psalm 110 is a Christmas mystery psalm whose scattered clues about a coming Davidic king-priest only resolve once you see Jesus in them: he is crowned king at his birth, advances his kingdom not by conquest but by converting willing worshippers, was invested as an eternal priest-king before time began, and will return to crush his enemies and complete his reign.

Psalm 118 is voiced by a Davidic king who is delivered from near-death and brings salvation to his people, and this pattern; crown only through the cross; finds its fulfillment in Jesus, who was rejected, died, and rose to bring God's people into the broad place of his steadfast love.

Psalm 98, the psalm behind 'Joy to the World,' is not about Christ's first coming at Bethlehem but a future song of the second coming, and believers sing it now as a foretaste of the joy they will experience when Jesus returns as Savior, Ruler, and Maker.

The Nicene Creed's closing hope of 'the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come' finds its fullest content in Zechariah 14:9, where Yahweh; revealed as the triune God in Christ; returns to defeat the nations at Jerusalem and becomes the sole king and name over the whole earth, an age not yet realized but guaranteed by Christ's own resurrection.

Psalm 132 traces the ark of the covenant's journey from loss to David's promise to Solomon's unfulfilled temple dedication, and that unresolved longing for the Messiah's presence is answered when Jesus, the true ark, comes first to lowly Bethlehem before one day reigning from Mount Zion.

Baptism is a single, unrepeatable act that marks the church's creation, an appeal to God for the forgiveness of sins grounded in Christ's death and resurrection, and the believer's visible association with the body of Christ; fulfilling the Nicene Creed's confession of 'one baptism for the forgiveness of sins' drawn from Ephesians 4:5.

Jesus answers the disciples' question about who is greatest in heaven by first redirecting them to a more basic question; how one enters heaven at all; showing that childlike faith (dependent turning, new birth, and resting in grace) is the doorway, and only then that humility, not greatness or productivity, marks true greatness in the kingdom.

Preaching from Ephesians 4:4 within a series on the Nicene Creed, Jesse Johnson argues that the phrase 'one holy Catholic and apostolic church' describes seven marks of a true church; spirit-drawn, word-ordered, one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, gathered; showing that true unity is grounded not in external uniformity but in submission to the Spirit and the Word.

Jesus, as the true divine Son, is exempt from the temple tax, yet he voluntarily pays it in his humanity to avoid being a stumbling block; modeling how believers, adopted as sons of God, hold their gospel freedom while submitting to earthly authorities for the sake of the gospel.

Psalm 65 answers the pressing question of how God will provide for us by revealing him first as the redeemer who forgives sin through atonement, then as the powerful creator, and finally as the bountiful provider whose overflowing 'wagon cart' of blessing is ultimately fulfilled in Christ, our redeemer, creator, and provider.

The doctrine of inspiration means Scripture is simultaneously a fully human and fully divine book; God spoke through the prophets and apostles such that their very words are God's own words; so believers can trust the Bible as no myth but God-breathed truth.

When Jesus was physically present, his authority validated the disciples' power over demons, but as he prepares to leave, believers no longer wield direct authority over the demonic; instead even a small amount of faith must be exercised through prayer according to God's will, not through commanding signs.

The Holy Spirit is not the vague, forgotten, or gimmick-defined figure of charismatic excess but the third person of the Trinity who proceeds eternally from the Father and Son as their mutual love, and who personally executes every stage of salvation; regeneration, union with Christ, adoption, edification through spiritual gifts, and final glorification; in the believer's life.

In the Transfiguration, Peter, James, and John embody the three offices of Christ; king, priest, and prophet; and the vision teaches that Christ's glory (and ours) comes only through the path of suffering, not around it.

Preaching through 1 Corinthians 15:1-7 alongside the Nicene Creed's phrase 'he suffered death,' the sermon argues that the whole Bible and all four Gospels are structured to drive relentlessly toward Christ's crucifixion, so that the gospel 'of first importance' is summarized as cross, grave, earth, and sky; death, burial, resurrection, and ascension; not his miracles or teaching.

In the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah embody two false ways of relating to God; Moses represents measuring your standing with God by your own obedience (works-righteousness), and Elijah represents measuring God's goodness by how well your circumstances are going (living by sight); and Jesus, the truly glorified one, rescues believers from both by securing their spiritual life in his glory rather than their performance or providence.

The transfiguration reveals the Father, Son, and Spirit together displaying the same eternal, triune glory of God shining through the humanity of Christ, and this glory; destined to be shared with believers; comes only by way of the cross.

The Nicene Creed's phrase 'for us and for our salvation' teaches that in the incarnation only the Son took on a true human nature alongside his divine nature, a plan fixed in God's mind before time, and its purpose is captured in Luke 19:10; the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost, as illustrated in Zacchaeus.

Creation itself reveals how the Trinity works: God's operations are undivided (Father, Son, and Spirit accomplish one indivisible work), yet that one work is ordered; everything is from the Father, through the Son, and by the Spirit; which is why John 1:3 can say all things were made 'through' the Son without dividing God's being.

Psalm 113 commands all people everywhere to praise God because he is both utterly transcendent in glory and yet stoops down in mercy to lift the poor and barren, a pattern fulfilled supremely in Christ who emptied himself, died, and was exalted so that his people could share his very table and life.

Jesus's promise in Matthew 16:27-28 that he will return with his angels means every person's eternal destiny is settled by what they have done: believers, who deny themselves and follow Christ now, will receive rewards, while unbelievers will face judgment and hell.

Preaching from 1 Corinthians 8:6, the pastor argues that Paul roots the church's rejection of idols in the doctrine of God the Father: because all of God's perfections (omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, holiness) subsist singularly and personally in the Father, and because he is the source ('from whom are all things') of all creation and of the Son and Spirit, idols have no real existence and cannot truly defile anything.

True conversion to Christ is not mere intellectual agreement about who Jesus is, but a willing, total surrender of one's life to his lordship; denying yourself and carrying your own cross in a lifelong commitment that values Christ above every other person, goal, or possession.

Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection were not a plan B improvised after his ministry ran into opposition, but God's fixed plan from before the foundation of the world, prophesied throughout the Old Testament, standing in direct collision with man's self-exalting wisdom.

A true church is defined by four foundational marks flowing from Matthew 16: the confession of Jesus as Lord (Trinitarian confession), true preaching of the word, true ordinances (baptism and communion), and true membership exercised through the keys of church discipline.

Biblical belief, as summarized in the earliest Christian creed embedded in 1 Timothy 3:16, is not a subjective private preference but an objective response of allegiance to God, the fountain of truth, revealed climactically in the incarnate, Spirit-vindicated, and proclaimed Christ.

Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is the supernatural, Spirit-given confession on which Christ builds his invincible church, and every believer must move from merely trusting themselves or living off others' faith to personally confessing who Jesus is.

Jesus Christ, as the radiance of God's glory and the exact imprint of his nature, is the only means by which sinful, finite humans can see and know the infinitely holy God, fulfilling the offices of prophet, priest, and king.

Jesus' rebuke on the boat over forgotten bread becomes his final private warning to the Twelve before founding the church: beware two deadly 'leavens' that will infect his church; the Pharisees' hypocrisy that blinds people to their own need for grace, and the Sadducees' anti-supernatural rationalism that denies the necessity of the new birth; and the antidote to both is dependent, humble prayer.

Unbelief, as displayed by the Pharisees and Sadducees demanding a sign, is not honest inquiry but a deliberate, belligerent, myopic, and obstinate refusal to believe despite overwhelming evidence, and Jesus answers it not with more miracles but with the sign of Jonah; his own coming death, burial, and resurrection.

Reflecting on John MacArthur's death through Elijah's ascension in 2 Kings 2, the preacher argues that though God uses individual servants in singular, seemingly irreplaceable ways, his work does not ultimately depend on any one man; it continues through new workers because it is finally fulfilled and sustained by Christ, the true and final worker who fulfills the law and the prophets.

Jesus alone is the one door to salvation; entered once by faith, not repeated rituals or works; so any teaching that turns entry into a repeatable, works-based process (like Rome's jubilee doors or sacramental re-forgiveness) is false religion that steals glory from God.

Baptism now saves believers in three ways: it buries them with Christ in a watery grave, raises them to new spiritual life through his resurrection, and unites them publicly to the visible church, all pictured in Noah's salvation through the flood.

Communion is not a mere symbol nor a re-sacrifice of Christ (contra Catholic and Lutheran views), but a real participation that proclaims God as our provider, Jesus as our provision through his atoning blood, and the church united as one body through shared union with Christ.

The binding of Isaac in Genesis 22 is a deliberate, detailed foreshadowing of the substitutionary atonement of Christ: what God required, prepared, submitted, offered, and substituted in the ram anticipates the greater Son whom the Father would actually offer up without rescue at Calvary.

The Canaanite woman's story shows that salvation belongs not just to Israel but to the whole world, and that the only way to receive it is to see yourself as low and undeserving; a 'dog' begging for crumbs; rather than trusting in your own goodness.

Jesus teaches that defilement comes from the heart, not from food or ritual washing, so the law's purpose is to expose the sinner's corrupt heart and drive them to see their need for the Savior.

Surveying the completed study of Proverbs, the wicked and the righteous are shown to diverge in every category of life; trouble, joy, fellowship with God, and ultimate destiny; because wisdom means living in step with how God made the world while folly fights against it, and this pattern culminates not in works righteousness but in the deliverance that comes to those who trust Christ.

Worship can look sincere and religious yet be entirely vain; Jesus himself calls it hatred toward him; when people either treat him as a spectacle who exists to meet their needs without submitting to his lordship, or treat him as an obstacle to be rejected for the sake of human tradition that has nullified God's written word.

Ephesians 6:1-4 calls children to obey their parents and parents to raise children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and this obedience-based flourishing is only possible because God gives a new heart through the grace of the gospel, not through willpower alone.

Psalm 8 shows that the transcendent, majestic God has ordained humanity to rule his creation, a destiny lost in the fall but fulfilled through Jesus, who took on mortal humanity, died, and rose to an immortal glorified humanity so that all united to him will share his rule over the world to come.

God's discipline of believers, though painful, is proof of his fatherly love and is designed for two purposes: to grow us in holiness and to preserve us from final condemnation, unlike his wrath toward unbelievers.

Jesus reveals his full deity to the disciples by walking on the water and declaring 'I am' in the midst of a storm, teaching them; and us; that even when he seems absent he sees our trials and calls us not to fear but to keep our eyes fixed on him and cry out for salvation.

Preaching through Proverbs 30, Pastor Johnson argues that after a lifetime of pursuing wisdom, King Agur discovers wisdom's limits; it cannot fully know God, cannot explain the mysteries of the created order, and cannot master everything; so wisdom's mature end is humility, prayer for contentment and truthfulness, and silence before God.

In feeding the 5,000, Jesus manufactured a crisis to teach the twelve apostles; not the crowd; that they would be responsible to feed his sheep with the word of God after he departed, a mandate that continues in the church today.

Preaching through Matthew 14's account of John the Baptist's beheading on Easter Sunday, the sermon argues that Herod represents life lived with no real hope in the resurrection; swinging between hedonism and terror of death; while John represents life lived with hope in the resurrection, and that only the empty tomb makes sense of how to face death.

Preaching through Jesus' rejection at Nazareth, the pastor argues that the townspeople's problem was never a lack of evidence; they were dazzled by his teaching and knew his miracles; but a moral refusal rooted in unbelief, offended specifically by his ordinary humanity, and that this same pattern of being intellectually impressed by Jesus while refusing to submit to him plays out today in intellectuals, false religion, and prosperity teaching.

Self-control is a hallmark of biblical wisdom in which a person rules his own body and heart rather than being ruled by them, and this virtue is most tested by the three great enemies of adultery, alcohol, and anger, while producing the fruit of godly courage.

Jesus's parable of the dragnet in Matthew 13 teaches that every person, without exception, is caught up in God's coming judgment and stands condemned by the law regardless of relative goodness or badness; only those rescued by faith in Christ, who fulfilled the law on their behalf, escape the fiery furnace of hell.

Working through the leadership-focused proverbs of chapters 25 through 29, the sermon argues that Scripture presents a coherent portrait of godly rulership; kings who take counsel, free the economy, lead decisively, and execute justice; yet all of it is finally held within the mystery of God's sovereign hand over every ruler's heart.

The parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price teach that spiritually dead people cannot perceive the beauty of the gospel until God regenerates them, and that regeneration always produces an instantaneous, joyful conversion marked by repentance and faith that counts the cost and sells all.

True, God-designed friendship; modeled ultimately on Christ laying down his life for his friends; requires wisdom to avoid destructive friendships (with fools, frauds, and the overly critical) and to cultivate faithful, loyal friends who love at all times and speak hard truth in love.

Jesus' parables of the mustard seed and the leaven teach that the kingdom of God begins in obscurity and weakness; like a baby in a manger or a lone boat in Galilee; yet is destined to permeate and transform the entire world, reaching its full flowering in the millennial kingdom.

Because Israel enjoyed real, overwhelming spiritual blessings from God yet still fell into idolatry, immorality, testing God, and grumbling, believers who assume their own spiritual security are most vulnerable to complacency-driven sin; the remedy is not self-effort but trust in God's faithfulness to provide a way of escape.
